Panini Announces Contenders Short Prints

Per a press release from Panini, the following players are short prints in the Contenders set:
"The following players are printed to 499 or fewer: Hasheem Thabeet, James Harden, Tyreke Evans
, Jordan Hill, Brandon Jennings
and Tyler Hansbrough.
These players were produced to 649 or fewer: Blake Griffin, Dante Cunningham, Earl Clark
, Jonny Flynn
, Stephen Curry
and Terrence Williams."
We here at Penny Sleeves guessed that Harden, Evans, Jennings and Clark were SPs but we did not see it coming with Griffin and Curry.
Clearly, the big names get listed en masse like Griffin and Curry and we believe that's what threw us off.
Additionally, although there are SPs in this set its really not quite the same as football with guys #'d to 21 etc. Click the player names above to see what of the SPs is available on eBay!
2009-10 Playoff Contenders Basketball Preview

Playoff Contenders is a staple product for football cards, it is THE rookie to have for guys like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and LaDainian Tomlinson. Last year, Donruss/Panini introduced this product to the baseball world. At first, I was not a believer but man was I wrong and man did it take off. Sales soared as collectors speculated about which cards would be announced as SPs. This year Donruss/Panini will be making a Playoff Contenders product for basketball.
Here is what you can expect in a box/case...

Here is the reason the product sells, Rookie Ticket Autos, although the design is busy, if these are on-card and SP'd they will sell like hotcakes...You have to wonder though...are there going to be 100 different subjects? If so, the rookie class will be VERY watered down.

For the vintage collectors...Rookie Tickets of old...

Does anyone like dual autos? I don't, especially in the rookie format because the connection is usually weak. Give me a Jordan/Pippen dual auto and we will start talking...

Also available, another vintage insert set...these look nice.

This is the second round of information to come out today, the first was Leaf Limited. I like this product a lot better, especially if the Tickets are on card, that is a great deal of bang for your buck.
